New terms of reference in our center are:
TOR1 To work with WHO in the dissemination of information on acupuncture and efficacy
TOR2 On request of WHO, to provide training opportunities for foreign scientists, medical doctors and acupuncturists on both scientific research and clinical practice of TM.
TOR3 To explore the approaches of developing traditional medicine/integrative medicine (TM/IM) in the modern medical colleges in China.
TOR4 To provide support to WHO in the process of formulating WHO TM policies, strategies, and regulatory frameworks.
1. Implementation of the work plan. For each main activity briefly explain how the activity was implemented, the outcome and impact and, if available, the results of the evaluation (e.g. evaluation of a course by the participants). to the WHO Department you work with).
Activity 1 International symposium on acupuncture research on the nervous system diseases and aging
Explanation:
We plan to hold the international symposium with the State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurology, Fudan University in 2013 or 2014. The subject is about Impact of Acupuncture on Human Health and Acupuncture Research on the Nervous Diseases and Aging. We will confirm the time, place and invited experts in this field for this symposium. We also prepare the announcement issued by journals or websites, and provide financial support for young scientists those who are from developing countries, especially from Asia and Africa. This international symposium is plan for 100 persons from China and overseas.
Activity 2 Specialized training programs for researchers, students and doctors
Explanation:
2.1 Three Ph.D. students fulfilled Ph.D. degree, and two finished their Master degree in this year. Three domestic research fellows and two post-doctor were trained in our center, each for about six months to two years. Twenty undergraduate students carried out their practice or scientific activities with the instruction of teachers in our center. The course of ‘The outline of fundamental of integrative medicine” was given to 40 graduate and 80 undergraduate students. The course of “The idea and method of integrative medicine” and “Principles of neural sciences” were given to 20 junior or senior graduate students. The course of “How to conceive, write and publish the scientific papers” for 202 master and Ph.D. students.
2.2 In July to August 2012, two undergraduate students from Harvard University, USA studied acupuncture research about two months in our center.
2.3 We plan to provide free training opportunities for 1-2 students from developing countries by websites of our center.
Activity 3 A survey on the status of the discipline development, education and training of TM/IM in modern medicine colleges in China
Explanation:
As a traditional collaborating center located in a famous modern medical college which is in one of the top universities in China, we have already realized our unique advantage and expertise as well as the responsibility to build a bridge between the prosperous modern medicine system and the TM through developing Integrative Medicine (IM).
3.1 In May, 2012, in request of Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China and the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Prof. Gencheng Wu and Yanqing Wang organized the domestic experts to compile the guideline document in TM/IM education: Bachelor’s, Master's and Doctoral Discipline Training Requirements of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. To be finalized, we will further promote international communication and the development of the integration medicine in the medical colleges at home and abroad
3.2 In August, 2012, Prof. Gencheng Wu and Associated Prof. Yi Feng attended the Teaching Seminars in combination of TCM and Western medicine, discussed with domestic colleagues about how to strengthen the teaching the integrated medicine in both western medicine college and traditional Chinese medicine colleges in China.
3.3 We want to build the integrated workshop on developing TM/IM in our university, from the teaching of undergraduate students, training of master or Ph.D. students and practice in affiliated hospitals. Our center will take the responsibility to integrate the resource (research instruments and technology), collect the talents and experts and attract the excellent students.
3.4 We plan to launch the survey on the status of the discipline development, education and training of TM/IM in modern medicine college in 2013-2014. In year 2015-2016, we will hold the international teaching seminar in current policies, condition and difficulty in TM/IM in modern medicine colleges in China. This seminar will strengthen the communication and cooperation of TM/IM between WHOCCs for TM, and give some suggestion about the approaches of developing TM/IM in the modern medical colleges. We are going to publish the report in the related journal or feedback to administration office and WHO.
2. Other information related to the Collaboration between the centre and WHO. Briefly describe visits by WHO staff to the centre, visits by the centre staff to WHO (HQ and/or Regional Office), use of the centre staff by WHO, support provided by centre staff for courses cosponsored or organized by WHO (HQ and/or Regional Office), WHO financial support to the centre through contractual or Technical Services Agreement or other type of support provided by WHO, any other collaborative activities. Please mention any difficulties encountered in the collaboration and suggestions for increased and improved collaboration with WHO.
On 26th October, 2012, the 6th Director Meeting of Shanghai WHO CCs for TRM was held in Shanghai. The official of WPRO, Miss Manju Rani was presented and gave a speech. Prof. Gencheng Wu and Yanqing Wang attended this meeting and joined the discussion.
On 8-10th February, 2012, associated Prof. Yi Feng joined the “2012 Director Meeting of WHO CCs ” and “2012-2013 China/WHO Proposal Budget Launch ” held by Ministry of Chinese Health
As a member of WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Traditional Medicine, Prof. Xiao-Ding Cao has been keeping close contact with WHO and giving her suggestions on some issues about the policy of Traditional Medicine or Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
We shall always pay attention to the instructions from WHO and WPRO, keep in touch with web of Institute of Medical Information Institute, China Academy of Medical Science and try to do our best for the great goal of world health.
3. Collaboration with other WHO Collaborating Centres: Briefly describe the nature and outcome of the collaboration and the name(s) of the other WHO collaborating centre(s) with which the centre has collaborated. If applicable, please mention the name of the network of WHO CCs to which the centre belongs. Also include suggestions for increased and improved collaboration with other WHO CC.
Activities of our center also include the collaboration with other WHO collaborating centers in other countries as well as in China. In China, we collaborated and interchanged with other Traditional Medical Centers and did some joint researches, such as Shanghai University of TCM, Nanjing University of TCM and Chinese Academy of TCM in Beijing.
We also keep the concerns with documents or news of WHO and WHO/WPRO on global health and traditional medicine work, and try our best to achieve the great goal.
