The Department of Integrated Medicine and Neurobiology, School of Basic Medical Sciences of Fudan University is the first set of doctoral programs in China (1981), the first collaborating center of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Traditional Chinese Medicine (1983), and the key national disciplines of the Integrated Chinese and Western medicine (1989). The department was formerly the Acupuncture Principle Research Laboratory (1975) and the Acupuncture Principle Research Institute (1985) in Shanghai Medical University. In 2002, the Department of Integrated Medicine and Neurobiology was established. In 2003, the 3rd grade Laboratory of Acupuncture and Neurobiology was set up by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is the PI unit of the State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology, the Institute of Brain Sciences and the Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine of Fudan University.
The department has devoted to teaching, scientific research, professional training and international cooperation in Integrative Medicine and Neurobiology. The main research fields include the acupuncture analgesia, anti-depression, acupuncture modulation on neuroendocrine and neuro-immune, and so on. Numerous articles had been published in the international SCI journals and many national and provincial & ministerial science and technology awards have been awarded during the past years. Furthermore, the excellent M.D. and Ph.D. students graduated from our department are throughout the world nowadays. Among them, there are national youth outstanding, new century talent of the Ministry of Education, national outstanding postdoctoral, three national outstanding doctoral dissertations, and one national outstanding nomination.
There are 2 professors, 8 associate professors, 1 lecturer and 2 technicians. The department set post-doctoral workstation. More than 40 master students, doctoral students and training and advanced students work together.
As the only national key subject base of integrated Chinese and Western medicine, the laboratory actively promotes the international and domestic exchange of talents. It has established close cooperation with Harvard University, Yale University, Stanford University, Texas University, Gothenburg University, Chiba Cancer Center of Japan and other domestic institutions.
